Building a Scalable Cross-Border
E-commerce Platform for SMEs
About Eunimart
Industry: E-commerce, Logistics & International Trade
Project Type: Custom Software Development
Location: India
Client Description: Eunimart was a cross-border e-commerce platform helping small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) expand globally by streamlining operations across multiple channels. The platform integrated omnichannel commerce, supply chain management, and advanced data analytics to facilitate seamless global trade.
Objective
Eunimart wanted to create a scalable, robust platform that addressed the complexities of cross-border e-commerce, including omnichannel integration, real-time logistics management, and international payment processing. The goal was to empower SMEs to grow globally, while reducing operational friction and costs. They needed a flexible architecture capable of managing high transaction volumes, supporting rapid expansion, and complying with global trade regulations.
Our Solution
To help Eunimart realize their vision of enabling SMEs to seamlessly sell across borders, we developed an all-in-one platform that integrates e-commerce, logistics, and payment systems into a single user-friendly interface. The platform connects with major e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart, Lazada, Amazon, and Etsy, and logistics providers including Delhivery, FedEx, and DHL. This simplifies the entire cross-border transaction process. Payment gateways such as Axis, RazorPay, Stripe, and PayPal were integrated to facilitate smooth, international transactions.
Process
We began by designing a high-performance backend infrastructure using Python and Node.js, ensuring scalability and reliability. PostgreSQL was chosen as the primary database to handle complex queries and manage large volumes of orders and transactions. For real-time event handling, Redis was integrated, allowing quicker user response times.
On the front end, we used React.js and Next.js to build a modern, responsive user interface. The UI was optimized for both desktop and mobile, ensuring that SMEs could easily manage their e-commerce operations across devices.
API integrations were built to connect Eunimart with major e-commerce platforms, enabling businesses to list products, manage inventory, and process orders from a single platform.
Integration with logistics providers enabled efficient shipment tracking, while payment gateways ensured secure international transactions.
Security was a key focus, with GDPR-compliant data encryption protocols implemented to protect sensitive customer and transaction data, meeting the highest international security standards.
Key Challenges
Scalability and Performance: Ensuring the platform could accommodate rapid user growth without compromising performance. Optimizing database queries and data retrieval, especially with multiple integrations in place, was critical.
Complex API Integrations: Each payment gateway and logistics provider had unique APIs and requirements. Ensuring seamless communication between these services while maintaining platform stability required meticulous API management and error handling.
Cross-Border Compliance: Automating international shipping regulations, customs, and duties posed challenges. We built complex logic to ensure correct documentation and compliance for each transaction, seamlessly integrating these processes into the platform.
Results
Eunimart successfully onboarded over 5,000 sellers and processed more than 50,000 orders per month. SMEs using the platform saw a 50% reduction in shipping costs and a 35% decrease in operational expenses due to optimized logistics and supply chain management. In 2020 Eunimart was positioned as a market leader in cross-border e-commerce, providing SMEs with a comprehensive solution for automating global trade.
